Don't Over Coach
Keep it simple during games. Emphasize just one or two focus goals per half for the players to focus on. Give clear and concise instructions before the game and during halftime. Save the coaching for practice.
Practice is the time and place to emphasize coaching points that prepare players for game situations. The more exposure to game related situations, the more prepared players will be during actual games. Allow ample time for the players to play in game related situations, forcing them to make their own decisions. Besides, players need to make decisions. Great players make great decisions right after making a mistake!
So, don't over coach. Watch them, listen to them, and during this time, the players will discover their strengths and weaknesses. After all, isn't it easier to teach someone who understands what it is they need to learn?

Learn From Your Mistakes
Games, practices, and scrimmages are all perfect times for learning and gaining valuable experience. There are times when coaches need to allow players to make mistakes and just play on. Give players a chance to show that they can learn from a mistake and even fix it. As a coach, allowing the players to play after a mistake can be very telling. It is often during the minutes after a mistake that players prove their level of competence! When a mistake is made, the coach should watch to see what the players do and say. Take time at practice to make adjustments, giving time for players to practice correcting the mistake. Players grow and develop playing through their mistakes.
